1. The Folly Of The Shackled Hands
Have you ever tried lifting something heavy while your hands were tied? It is impossible I know! You strain, you groan, you sweat, but the chains restrict every move. That is what happens spiritually when we attempt to fight the enemy while bound in sin.
Too often, Christians equate passion with authority. They think if they pray louder, longer, or with more energy, the devil will run. But the reality is different. The enemy does not fear volume—he fears alignment with God; a believer that lives by the authority of His Word and does his will.
Look at Acts 19, and yes, the seven sons of Sceva. They tried to cast out a demon (and if they succeeded they were planning to make it their full time job and source of wealth) using the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The demon responded: “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?” Then it beat them until they fled naked and wounded.
13. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, 'I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.'
14. Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.
15. But the evil spirit answered them, 'Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?'
16. And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Acts 19:13
That story teaches a hard truth: authority cannot be borrowed. It flows from relationship. Without obedience, the words we speak hold no weight in the spirit realm.
...And if you could ask me, I think the sons of Sceva though they were wicked are so much better than the believers of today who have never iin their lives even tried to use the Name of the Lord, even just to see if it works!
The reason is they do not care. What the sons of Sceva saw, the power of the Name of Jesu Christ and that it can overcome strong men when used, I am afraid even today many christians are still ignorant and blind.
The problem of the sons of Sceva with their discovered wisdom is that they were using the Name of the Lord that they do not know and believe in, and neither were they sent by the Lord but something powerful happened that they strong men and demons had to expose before their kingdom is destroyed by false prophets that were ignorant and using trial and error.
Since they never believed the Lord Jesus it means that they were still in great sins that exposed them to demons that they ended up failing when what they were doing the copied it exactly from Apostle Paul....
2. Empty Authority – Powerless: When Disobedience Weakens Us
Now, Think of a police officer. The power is not in his uniform, but in the authority backing him. If he quits obeying the law and uses his badge for selfish gain, criminals will stop fearing him.
In the same way, our authority as Christians is tied directly to obedience. James 4:7 makes it clear:
7. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
Notice the order—submission first, resistance second. Yep, just that simple!
Yet many believers want to skip submission and go straight to resistance. They rebuke the devil while entertaining secret sins. They declare freedom while privately clinging to chains.
The result? Their authority is empty. Disobedience disarms us. Sin opens doors. Every compromise gives the enemy a foothold...
...And as long as he has a foothold, he will not budge when we shout at him. And that my friend is why many have been failing and falling flat; and unless one does not change nothing new is going to happened!
3. Why Christians Fail To Bind The Strong Man And The True Nature Of The Strongman
Human beings are addicted to pride, honour and fame even when it means lying....
And they one the things that the Lord warned us repeatedly, including even all his Prophets and Apostles, are to be aware or be on guard against deception and deceivers that will come in His Name, especially in our lifetime.
This wicked generation is the breeding ground for them; no wonder why people are weak and deceived spiritually because we are taught be the servants of demons and strong men in our lives to deceive us that we will be delivered–when they are just enslaving and steeping us into more and more sins and chains...
They are here to make sure that no one does the will of God and if they fail to weaken us and strip us of our power to overcome them or cause too much damage! Do not be deceived by their fake concern and vain words that have not lead even a single person to complete deliverance!
Let’s be real—why does spiritual warfare seem ineffective for so many?
<>   Some Reasons Of Ineffectiveness In Spiritual Warfare
- 1. Unrepented Sins – Chains remain unbroken when hidden in darkness
- 2. Religion Without Relationship – Fasting, praying, and attending services mean little if our hearts stay far from God.
- 3. Pride in Our Own Effort – Believing loud prayers equal power instead of relying on God’s Spirit.
- 4. Fighting Alone – The enemy thrives on isolation, and too many Christians face battles in silence.
Here is a twist: sometimes the “strongman” is not just an external demon but an internal stronghold. Paul speaks of destroying strongholds in 2 Corinthians 10:4–5:
4. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
5. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4–5
Strongholds are often patterns of thought: fear, doubt, pride, unforgiveness. These internal battles can be more dangerous than external attacks. You can rebuke demons all day, but if you still believe the lies they whispered—“you are worthless,” “you will never change,” “God cannot forgive you”—your authority will remain crippled.
That is why renewing the mind is essential. Victory comes when lies are replaced with truth.
Here is another truth many ignore: you were never meant to fight alone. The enemy knows this, which is why he isolates believers. A lone Christian is vulnerable.
But Scripture shows the power of unity:
12. And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12
When Christians stand together in prayer, worship, and accountability, chains snap faster. That is why the early church met daily, sharing struggles and victories. They fought as a family, not as individuals.
If you want lasting freedom, find a community. Let others stand with you.
Binding the strong man requires more than shouting. It requires surrender.
Surrender to the Lord Christ and the power of the Holy Ghost; then God will give you the power to overcome: the Lord Jesus takes away sins by the power of His blood, but the the Holy Ghost is the one that gives you the power, dunamis, because He is the only one that is more powerful than the strong man.
Wherefore, it begins with repenting to be forgiven, then washed, and then finally, empowered to overcome strong man.
This is roughly how it is supposed to be in order to win against the Devil, demons and strong men–YOU CAN NEVER OVERCOME THE STRONG BY YOUR POWER BUT BY THE POWER ONLY OF THE HOLY GHOST!
4. Waking Up The Sleeping Church
Today’s church must wake up. We cannot keep singing about victory while living as prisoners. We cannot keep binding demons with our mouths while feeding them with our actions.
Revival will not come through louder services or trendier sermons. Revival will come through surrendered lives. The enemy does not tremble at noise. He trembles at holiness.
It is time for the body of Christ to rise as unchained warriors—submitted, humble, united, and fearless.
What Happens When Christians Try To “Coexist” With Small Sins?
Destruction follows. Sin is never content to stay small.
⚡ The Nullifying And Destructive Power Of Sin
- Spiritual Stagnation: Prayer life weakens, scripture reading becomes shallow, and worship loses power.
- Emotional Bondage: Anxiety, depression, and fear thrive where sin lingers.
- Relational Division: Families fracture, friendships crumble, churches split.
The strong man thrives in compromise, but he loses ground the moment you decide enough is enough. The cross already secured the victory; Jesus said in John 19:30, “It is finished.” But walking in that victory requires alignment with the Victor.
When demons look at you, may they never again laugh and say, “Who are you?” May they tremble because they see Christ shining through you. Authority is not in what you shout but in how you live. Break the chains, surrender fully, and walk as a warrior unchained.
Claiming True Power – The Path Of Surrender
Real authority comes not from fighting harder but from surrendering deeper. This is the paradox of Christian warfare. Victory begins with yielding.
⚡ Steps To Victory
- Repentance and Confession: Sin loses its grip the moment it is confessed. Confession is like light flooding into a dark room—the darkness has no choice but to flee.
- Obedience to Scripture: Authority grows as we live the Word, not just read it. When our daily choices reflect God’s truth, demons recognize it.
- Prayer and Fasting: These practices recalibrate our desires, stripping away distractions and drawing us close to God.
- Walking in Humility: Pride fuels the strong man, but humility shuts him down.
Think of Jesus in the wilderness, He did not scream at Satan; He simply stood firm on Scripture and obedience, that was enough to send the devil away....
5. Final Thoughts: Living Beyond Empty Declarations
The truth is simple: many Christians are powerless not because Jesus lacks power, but because they are unwilling to surrender. Binding the strong man is not about louder prayers but about deeper obedience.
The good news? Freedom is always possible. Chains can break today. Authority can be restored today. And the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, ready to empower you.
Many believers today are locked in a cycle of frustration. They rebuke, they declare, they even fast and pray, yet their lives show little evidence of victory. The temptation in those moments is to believe that God has abandoned us or that the devil is somehow too strong.
But that is a lie. The cross already declared the end of Satan’s dominion: Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). The issue is never about whether victory has been won—it is about whether we are walking in alignment with the Victor.
Think about it this way: a soldier can possess the most advanced weapon, but if he refuses to obey his commander or learn discipline, that weapon will remain useless. In the same way, Christ has armed us with His authority, but disobedience, compromise, and pride make us spiritual soldiers carrying unloaded guns. The devil knows it, and he mocks us for it.
That is why the call in this season is not to shout louder prayers but to live deeper lives. Binding the strong man is not a one-night spiritual exercise; it is a daily lifestyle of surrender. It is choosing obedience when disobedience feels easier.
It is forgiving when bitterness promises comfort. It is turning from sin even when it demands a high personal cost. Authority flows from holiness, and holiness is not perfectionism—it is devotion. It is the daily “yes” to God when everything in you wants to say “no.”
That is where true strength lies. When you submit to God, the devil does not see your weakness anymore—he sees the authority of Christ standing in front of him. That is when he flees...
And here is the good news: it is never too late to realign. Even if you have lived years of ineffective spiritual warfare, even if you have been mocked by the enemy and beaten like the sons of Sceva, there is always a way back.
Repentance reopens the flow of authority, confession loosens the grip of the strong man, humility invites the strength of God.
So ask yourself honestly: are you trying to bind the strong man while secretly feeding him? Are you demanding he leave while still renting him a room in your heart?
If so, the solution is not another loud prayer—it is surrender; it is letting go of the chains you have grown accustomed to. The enemy trembles not at noise but at a life fully yielded. A Christian on their knees in true repentance is more terrifying to hell than a preacher shouting from a stage.
Why? Because Heaven backs humility, and Hell cannot withstand it!
Here is the vision you must carry: the enemy looks at you and no longer laughs, hallelujah!
He does not say, “Who are you?” Instead, he whispers in fear, “I know who you belong to.” He recognizes the mark of Christ on your life—he sees the authority of the One who disarmed him at the cross. That is the invitation today—to stop living as a bound believer and start walking as a warrior unchained.
You were not redeemed to be mocked; you were not delivered to live defeated; you were saved to walk in authority, to enforce the victory of the cross, and to silence the mocking voice of the enemy once and for all. So rise up, child of God. The strong man is no match for a surrendered saint.
Shake off the chains, surrender fully and walk into the battlefield not as a victim, but as a warrior unchained!
He is coming for those that OVERCOME UNTO THE END, may His power of His Spirit enable us to be victorious even unto His great Day of His coming, in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen and Amen!
Give you life to God today and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Pray this simple repentance prayer now and you shall be saved!
Do not wait for tomorrow do it right now while you still have the opportunity!
